We decided on blue stone for our counter tops. It had all the characteristics I wanted in a stone top for very, very inexpensive. $16 a square foot. Cheaper than anything available at Lowes or the kitchen store. You can see from these photos why it is so inexpensive. Sean is doing it all himself. The slabs are straight from a quarry in PA that is owned by a local stone place. They ordered some slabs for us and we went over and picked out our favorites. Blue stone is GORGEOUS polished up and oiled. The first piece in already set in place in the kitchen. It resembles slate or soapstone in color but is very, very hard. And heavy.
All of Sean's cuts and polishing is done with diamond blades and diamond polishing pads.

Just happened apon you blog-- very cool! I was just telling my husband I wished he was more of a carpender... We re-did our first home in Montana, and now live in NC in a remodled barn. (We didn't remodle it:)
I was curious though, I read you were going to sell your house and move to Germany with the proceeds. Does your husband work too? What's in Germany--beauty?:) Just curious--I have a gypsy soul...always plotting where to go next! jen

We would eventually love to move to Germany but are here until God gives the okay. Sean has been many times and I just once and we love it. Sean would love to pastor there.

Beautiful countertop. I'm thinking of doing the same for a powder room vanity top. Would you mind sharing what brand grinding/polishing products you used to get the finish and what the basic process was? i.e. do you have to step from 50-100-200-400-800-1500-3000 grit, or can you skip a few. Did you polish wet and/or dry? Thanks for the blog and great work!
